Quinns story

Quinn lived with his brother Harley in some woodland next to a restaurant close to the Yangtze river. Their mother and father played with them in the dirty restaurant car park when they were very young puppies and they were a very peaceful dog family.

As the puppies got bigger they spent their nights alone in the bushes where they would come out every night with wagging tails, starving and waiting for some boiled chicken.

Harley was the bravest of the two brothers and would come very close, desperate to eat, while Quinn was shy and would stay further back. He was more cautious but would sometimes feel safe coming nearer if he was close behind his brother.

One day Quinn’s brother Harley had his femur broken and we managed to urgently rescue him. When we tried to rescue Quinn too, he ran away and we couldn’t catch him. Over the following days he spent his time close to his mother but soon returned to his home in the trees, the only place he felt safe.

After a few attempts and a lot of patience in the early hours of the morning, hungry and alone, Quinn walked into a giant cage with food inside and his whole world changed forever.

At the vets Quinn was very curious, he was sat at the front of the cage staring out with his beautiful eyes, unsure what he was doing there but always curious. He tested negative for all diseases and was healthy and ready to be reunited with his brother once he had stayed in the vets for a week to make sure he stayed healthy.

On boxing day he was going to reunite with his brother but his eyes had begun to stream with a thick white goo and the vet tested him again and he had canine parvovirus, one of the most dangerous disease a dog can catch.

Quinn had to move to a different vets who would be willing to treat this highly contagious disease. Quinn was quickly put onto an IV drip to take the pressure off his digestive system and was given medicine every day to help support his body fighting this horrible disease.

Quinn stayed strong and managed to fight off parvo after several days of symptoms. This was a big emotional release for us, we couldn’t believe it. It’s hard to put into words how it feels when an animal survives a very deadly disease.

Quinn recovered and began to eat more and get stronger but unfortunately and surprisingly a few weeks later he developed more symptoms. He was then diagnosed with canine distemper, which is also one of the most dangerous diseases a dog can catch.

We were in shock, maybe even more than when he caught Parvo. After the relief of surviving that he was again very sick with a disease that takes many dogs lives.

This time Quinn suffered a lot with a bad cough, blocked nose and difficulty breathing. After the relief of seeing Quinn survive.

Every day we fed Quinn chicken and gave him lots of love. It’s so important t to try to help him regain some strength and have a reason to want to live.

Quinn is very loving and even though he was very sick he was happy to have some company and every day we hoped that he would continue to fight the disease and he stayed strong and kept fighting. This was a really difficult time, every day we didn’t know whether he would get better.

Thankfully after a long battle and against all odds he began to recover and even though his breathing was weaker for a while he regained his full strength.

Quinn then spent a few more months at the vets, finding it difficult in the cage every day, but absolutely loved to run around and play on the grass every time he had chance. He is adorably clumsy, playful, funny and one of the most loving dogs who will give you kisses all day long.

Thankfully Quinn was then welcomed at a dog rescue Sanctuary where he was reunited with his brother, made friends with lots of dogs, and can experience love every day. Quinn enjoyed spending his time running around, with no worries about where his next meal is coming from and lots of space to play and explore every day.

He is adorably clumsy, playful, funny and one of the most loving dogs who will give you kisses all day long. Quinn quickly falls in love with people and especially loves to play with puppies where he can enjoy being silly and running around without a care in the world.

After many months in the sanctuary Quinn found his forever home and now lives in Nigeria with a wonderful lady and her son. We miss him lots but seeing Quinn happy and part of a loving family is amazing.
