It was nothing short of a miracle that anyone even noticed him. Way down deep in a dark, damp canal, where the walls were steep, and the algae-covered water seemed endless, a little dog was clinging to life. He had been surviving on his own in the cold and shadows, invisible to the world above—until Becky saw him.
She was the first to spot the tiny figure huddled in one of the tunnels. It was a heart-wrenching sight: a small, fragile dog, alone in such an unforgiving place. Becky couldn’t ignore him. She knew she had to do something, but the canal was steep, slippery, and dangerous.

For days, she tried to keep an eye on him. There were times he vanished completely, and Becky feared the worst. But then, one night, he was back—curled up in the same tunnel as before, as though he was waiting for someone to come for him.
That’s when Becky reached out for help, and together with Yvonne, Lilly, and another friend, she set out to rescue him. The four of them knew it wouldn’t be easy, but none of them could bear the thought of leaving him down there another night.
They climbed down into the canal, navigating steep, ladder-like stairs that were coated in algae and treacherously slippery. Every step was nerve-wracking, but they were determined. With a trap and a leash in hand, they moved carefully, searching for any sign of the little dog.
The air was damp and cold, the ground beneath them slick with green algae. It was hard to imagine how the tiny dog had survived for so long in such conditions. They set the trap in a safe spot, sprinkling liquid smoke along the tunnels to lure him toward it. And then they waited.

At first, there was nothing but the eerie quiet of the canal. The minutes dragged on, and the team began to worry he wouldn’t come. But they didn’t give up—they couldn’t. They believed he was out there, and that belief kept them going.
Two hours later, their patience was rewarded. There he was, trembling and scared but alive, curled up inside the trap. A tiny miracle, shivering and exhausted, but safe at last.
It was an emotional moment for everyone. Becky couldn’t hold back her tears, and the others felt a wave of relief and gratitude wash over them. This little dog had endured so much, and now he was finally going to be okay.
Carefully, they worked together to lift the trap out of the canal. The stairs were steep and slippery, and every step had to be taken with caution. But inch by inch, they carried him up, never letting go of the hope that had brought them this far.
Once they reached the top, they wasted no time getting him to safety. The trap was placed gently in the van, and soon he was free from it, sitting on the front seat where he could finally rest.

It was then that the magnitude of the moment truly hit. The little dog, now warm and safe, looked up at Becky with wide, soulful eyes. He seemed to understand that his nightmare was over, that these people had saved him from a place no one else had dared to go.
As she started the van and drove away, the little dog let out a soft cry—not of fear, but of relief. Tears streamed down his tiny face, as though he was letting go of all the pain and fear he had been carrying for so long.
And then, as if the weight of it all had finally lifted, he curled up and fell asleep. His small paws folded in a way that almost looked like he was praying, as if thanking the universe for his rescue.
For Becky and her friends, it was a moment they would never forget. The sight of this little survivor, finally safe after so many nights alone, reminded them why they do what they do. It wasn’t just about saving a life—it was about giving hope to those who have been forgotten.
This little dog, a true miracle, showed the world that no matter how small or scared someone may seem, they deserve a chance to be saved. His story is a testament to the power of compassion, perseverance, and love.
And now, he’s no longer alone.
