180 dogs saved as owner of pet rescue ranch is charged for animal cruelty

We never planned to get involved in animal rescue work, we didn’t even know much about it until we were face to face with animals in need of help here in China. As we began to feed many stray animals and were able to rescue some, we learnt more about other animal rescue groups.

Thankfully most rescue groups are animal lovers living in the same communities, coming together to feed and trying to help stray dogs and cats with little to no funding. Unfortunately, every now and then we come across animal rescuers who don’t have good intentions for the animals they claim to help.

In this story, the man involved rescued a lot of animals but wasn’t looking to help them. News of this man came out when animal control officers uncovered a tragic scene at his pet rescue centre in the Mojave Desert.

The rescue centre, owned by 60-year-old Stephen Caro, was home to 180 dogs and 170 cats, all suffering from severe neglect. According to authorities, the animals were found in deplorable conditions, leading to Caro’s arrest on nearly two dozen felony counts of animal cruelty.

Caro, who had advertised his shelter as a safe haven for abandoned pets, now faces 21 charges and is being held on $250,000 bail. The authorities allege that Caro misled the public, collecting donations under the pretense of caring for the animals. What a horrible thing to do!.

He failed to provide even the most basic necessities like food, water, and proper shelter. This negligence led to immense suffering among the animals, who were left to fend for themselves in squalid conditions.

Despite the grim circumstances, there is a silver lining. The county’s animal control officers have stepped in, working tirelessly to place many of the rescued animals into loving homes. They continue their efforts to find safe havens for the remaining pets, ensuring they receive the care and compassion they desperately need.

This story serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and accountability in animal rescue operations. It also highlights the critical role that animal control officers and caring community members play in safeguarding the welfare of our furry friends.

We hope in the future animal welfare laws around the world will continue to improve and become stricter. Animals deserve to be protected against cruelty.
