The team at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, led by Donna Lochmann, was out helping street dogs one day before an impending storm when they stumbled upon a heartbreaking scene. As they were walking through a local park, something caught their eye – a small, frightened dog tied to a picnic table.

The dog seemed shy and scared, and upon closer inspection, it became clear that the poor pup had been abandoned. He was left without food or water, looking confused and traumatized. His white fur was covered in ringworm, and it was clear that the dog had suffered immensely from being alone during the storms that had recently passed through the area.
Despite being terrified, the little dog barked in fear as the rescuers approached, trying to protect himself. However, with gentle words and treats, the rescuers gained his trust. Slowly, they were able to get a leash on him and bring him to safety. Once in the car, the little dog curled up on Donna’s lap and let out a deep sigh, signaling his relief and gratitude for finally being rescued.

The team named him Wilbur, and once he arrived at the rescue center, he was given medicated baths to treat his ringworm. Thankfully, other than the skin infection, Wilbur was healthy and ready to start his journey toward healing. He was soon placed in foster care, where he could feel safe, loved, and ready to find his forever home. No longer alone in the park, Wilbur could now look forward to a brighter future.
