Animal should always be kept in safe conditions but far too often we find animals living in horrible conditions. The Euclid Animal Shelter received a call from a concerned citizen about dogs abandoned in a home. Upon investigation, they found four dogs left inside for an extended period without food or water. With the help of the Euclid Police Department and a dedicated volunteer, Animal Control officers managed to enter the house and rescue the dogs.

The conditions were appalling. The male dog, Chester, was in the worst shape. Chained with a prong collar so short that he could only sit, stand, or lie down, Chester was extremely weak and covered in wounds and mange. He could barely stand for more than a few seconds without collapsing.
The three female dogs, Scarlett, Harper, and Libby, were equally neglected. They were so scared they had to be carried out and were covered in urine, feces, and other filth.
Chester weighed only 33.4 lbs and was diagnosed with heartworm. He has a long road to recovery ahead. The female dogs also have a journey to rebuild their trust and spirits. Despite their ordeal, they are incredibly sweet and love to be held and hugged.
The shelter named the dogs Chester, Scarlett, Harper, and Libby.
Chester’s Search for a Forever Home
Chester’s journey continued as he waited for his forever home. Despite his quirks – a preference to be the only pet and a wariness of men – Chester’s sweet and playful nature shone through.
